How to choose the right one
-
Match shape to layout
Your patio geometry dictates the best form factor. The Elementi+ Colosseo 40" Round Gas Fire Pit features a 40.9-inch diameter, making it ideal for circular seating arrangements or small square spaces. Conversely, the AMS Madison 60 in Rectangular Gas Fire Pit measures 60 inches long. This rectangular footprint aligns with linear dining tables or elongated patios. Choose the shape that mirrors your existing furniture arrangement to ensure balanced airflow and visual harmony in your outdoor living area.
-
Check weight for stability
Weight determines whether a unit stays secure in wind. The Elementi+ Colosseo 40" Round Gas Fire Pit weighs 173 pounds. This substantial mass anchors the unit firmly to the ground without needing extra ballast. The AMS Madison 60 in Rectangular Gas Fire Pit tips the scales at 196 pounds. Both models use heavy concrete bases to resist tipping. If you live in a breezy area, prioritize these high-weight options over lighter materials to maintain safety and prevent accidental movement during use.
-
Select fuel source wisely
Fuel type defines your installation requirements. The Elementi+ Colosseo 40" Round Gas Fire Pit runs on propane. This allows you to move the unit if needed, though its weight limits mobility. The AMS Madison 60 in Rectangular Gas Fire Pit uses natural gas. This requires a permanent gas line connection but eliminates the need for tank refills. Decide if you need portable heating or a fixed, continuous fuel source. Your choice depends entirely on your existing home infrastructure and how often you plan to rearrange your patio.
-
Verify height for comfort
Fire pit height affects how you sit near it. The Elementi+ Colosseo 40" Round Gas Fire Pit stands 40.9 inches tall. This table-height design allows you to place drinks or food on the surrounding surface while keeping the flame at eye level. The AMS Madison 60 in Rectangular Gas Fire Pit is only 17 inches high. This lower profile suits users who want a low-profile focal point rather than a functional table surface. Measure your seating height to ensure the flame is visible without straining your neck.
-
Consider included protection
Weather exposure impacts longevity. The Elementi+ Colosseo 40" Round Gas Fire Pit includes a protective cover. This accessory shields the concrete surface from rain and UV damage when not in use. The AMS Madison 60 in Rectangular Gas Fire Pit does not list an included cover in its specifications. You may need to purchase a separate fit for this model. If you want immediate protection against the elements, the included cover on the Colosseo model offers a practical advantage for low-maintenance upkeep.
